CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — Venezuelans are voting in a referendum Sunday to supposedly decide the future of a large swath of neighboring Guyana that their government claims ownership of, arguing the territory was stolen when a north-south border was drawn more than a century ago.Guyana considers the referendum a step toward annexation, and the vote has its residents on edge. It asks Venezuelans whether they support establishing a state in the disputed territory known as Essequibo, granting citizenship to current and future area residents, and rejecting the jurisdiction of the United Nations’ top court in settling the disagreement between the two South American countries. “We are solving through constitutional, peaceful and democratic means an imperial dispossession of 150 years,” President Nicolás Maduro said after voting in a military complex in Caracas, the capital. The International Court of Justice on Friday ordered Venezuela not to take any action that would alter Guyana’s ...Melted Onions / Belkys

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukrainian officials on Sunday launched an investigation into allegations that Russian forces killed surrendering Ukrainian soldiers, a war crime if confirmed, after grainy footage on social media appeared to show two uniformed men being shot at close range after emerging from a dugout. The video shows the servicemen, one of them with his hands up, walking out at gunpoint and lying down on the ground before a group of Russian troops appears to open fire. It was not immediately possible to verify the video’s authenticity or the circumstances in which it was filmed, and it was unclear when the incident took place. The Ukrainian General Prosecutor’s office on Sunday launched a criminal investigation, hours after the Ukrainian military’s press office said in an online statement that the footage is genuine.“The video shows a group in Russian uniforms shooting, at point-blank range, two unarmed servicemen in the uniform of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who were surrenderi...Kiss says farewell to live touring, set to be first US band to go virtual with digital avatars

ALPINE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — People in Michigan may notice more apples left on trees this year. That's because orchards say it does not make economic sense to harvest all the fruit. Schweitzer Orchards, located near Sparta, left rows of apples on its trees. Operations Manager Nick Schweitzer said they try to harvest as much as possible, but because of this year's strong supply coupled with higher labor costs, it makes more financial sense not to harvest every piece of fruit. “Anything that was below a certain size, we had to leave on the tree, because there probably wasn’t a market for it," Schweitzer said. "And so, we don’t want to incur those costs to have to try and store it or dump it later on."Apples remain on the trees at Schweitzer Orchards in Alpine Township on Nov. 29, 2023. Donald Trump hasn’t talked much about policy in this election cycle, except for vague assertions that he’ll somehow bring back low unemployment and low inflation — which, by the way, has already happened. (Unemployment has been at or below 4% for almost two years. Thursday’s report on consumer spending showed the Federal Reserve’s preferred measure of underlying inflation getting close to its 2% target.) Most of his energy seems to be devoted to the prospect of wreaking revenge on his political opponents, whom he promises to “root out” like “vermin.”Nonetheless, over the past few days, Trump has declared that if he returns to the White House, he’ll once again seek to do away with the Affordable Care Act, the reform that has produced a significant decline in the number of Americans without health insurance. Why this renewed assault? “Obamacare Sucks!!!” declared the former and possibly future president. Trump also promised to provide “MUCH BETTER HEALTHCARE” without offering any speci...Firefighters battle ammunition-fueled fire in Sylmar

Dogs dominate the pet CBD category. Not only are most of the studies on CBD for pets focused on canines, almost all of today’s pet-friendly CBD treats are only fit for Fido. However, that doesn’t mean researchers aren’t interested in feeding CBD to other animals. Interestingly, there’s emerging evidence that hemp CBD might benefit horses.Although the data on CBD for horses is limited, a few reputable sources have begun delving into this issue. People curious about feeding CBD to their mares should consider the latest research into this topic. Is CBD A Suitable Supplement For Horses? — What The Data SuggestsProfessors at Colorado State University recently published findings from a six-week trial on using CBD oil for horses.
