Meet Ultrapotter Adam D. Miller

Meet Ultrapotter Adam D. Miller Artist Adam D. Miller has his fingers in many pots. Literally. Best known to many as a co-founder of beloved Los Angeles and Palm Springs-based contemporary gallery The Pit, Miller is also an accomplished ceramicist on his own time. He is the force behind Reaperware—a line of functional ceramics for the home which are somehow both folksy and super Goth. And as an artist, his sensibility in the studio matches his gallery’s in a taste for elevated post-Pop work of skill and verve, equally embracing art historical gravitas and well-crafted wit and whimsy.Miller’s ceramics often take shape as vessels, frequently on a large-scale, whose corporeal curves, crusts, lumps, protrusions, and hand-soothed distresses reference and deconstruct the classical modality of the genre and amplify their relationship to the body—but whose zingy palettes and upbeat, comics-inspired imagery point to a joyful abandon and a set of meanings channeling the crazy sweetness of parenthood. His book Ultrapots (Lor...

Five reasons why Trey Lance belongs on 49ers’ roster, whether he’s QB2 or QB3

Five reasons why Trey Lance belongs on 49ers’ roster, whether he’s QB2 or QB3 SANTA CLARA — Barring a substantial trade offer, it makes no sense for the 49ers to part ways with Trey Lance after two seasons.By substantial, we’re not talking about a conditional mid-round pick based on how much Lance actually plays for a new team. Unless someone comes calling with a second-round draft pick or something in the top 100, Lance should remain with the 49ers whether he winds up playing in 2023 or not.Coach Kyle Shanahan hasn’t divulged playing time plans for Friday night’s preseason finale against the Los Angeles Chargers, saying only that he expects the starters (including Brock Purdy) to get some snaps.I’m not sure how wise that is, but so be it. The more important task is to get a player desperately in need of developmental playing time what could be his last extended run in a 49ers uniform.Lance was decidedly better Saturday against the Broncos than he was against the Raiders in the preseason opener for reasons that go beyond his stat...

Roman Catholic Archbishop of SF files for bankruptcy to cover settlements with abuse survivors SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- The Roman Catholic Archbishop of San Francisco announced Monday that it would be filing for bankruptcy to facilitate settlements with survivors of child sexual abuse. The filing is necessary to manage and resolve more than 500 lawsuits alleging child sexual abuse brought against the archdiocese under California Assembly Bill 218.AB 218, which was approved by Gov. Gavin Newsom in October of 2019 allows decades-old claims that would otherwise be time barred to be filed by Dec. 31, 2022. According to the archdiocese, the majority of the 500 outstanding claims stem from sexual abuse allegations that occurred more than 30 years ago. Those cases involve priests who are no longer active, or are deceased, the archdiocese said. This marks the second time the state has allowed time-barred or expired cases of child sexual abuse to be filed by survivors. California created a similar window in 2003. Since that time, the RCASF has paid more than $70 million to survivors in ...
